Monte Tavor - Bayo- Laguna -Skyline - Forest Preschool - Forest Elementary School

Monte Tavor, situated in Oakland, CA, and surrounding areas, has been offering a unique Spanish immersion program since 1994. Founded by a Nicaraguan family, the school promotes bilingual education for children aged 0-5 years at three of their locations. They recently added Forest Schooling for 18 months-7 years old.

The curriculum is crafted around children's interests, ensuring they acquire language through engaging activities like music, dance, art, and science. Monte Tavor's approach helps to build children's confidence and self-esteem, preparing them for advanced education.

Additionally, the forest schooling program in the Oakland Hills, takes learning beyond the classroom. Children have the opportunity to engage at their forest classrooms (right in the forest) in outdoor activities, fostering a love for the natural world and promoting physical health and well-being. This hands-on approach helps develop important life skills, such as problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience.

What is Forest Schooling?

A Forest School (also known as a Nature-Based Preschool or Forest School) is an educational program that takes place primarily outdoors, often in natural settings like forests, woodlands, or meadows. These programs started to initially cater to young children, usually between the ages of 2-7 years old, but now they are expanding to elementary schooling TK-5th grade and in some states Middle School through High School.

The focus is on hands-on, experiential learning through play, exploration, and interaction with nature. The curriculum is often child-directed, with minimal interference from teachers, allowing children to learn at their own pace and follow their interests.
