About
Casa Lala is a Washington, DC–based children’s enrichment program offering year-round, Montessori-inspired experiences with influences from Reggio Emilia and Forest School. Its fully bilingual (Spanish/English) team fosters a Spanish-speaking environment and introduces children to Spanish and Latin American cultures through music, food, and community-centered activities.
The signature “DC is our Classroom” program uses Casa Lala’s music-filled vans to make the city a hands-on learning environment. Children explore parks, farms, museums, theaters, monuments, and splash pads while building knowledge through real-world experiences. Programming includes week-long camps, One Day Camps, and workshops that range from science experiments and jiu jitsu to pottery, with an emphasis on outdoor time and curiosity-driven learning.
Casa Lala was founded by AMI Montessori teacher Marcela Tampe (“Lala”), who began the program in her home in response to parent demand for after-school and holiday options where children feel at home. The organization hosts community events, supports local artists and small businesses, and offers a scholarship program to expand access for families.
