About
The Early School is a private, nonprofit, accredited independent preschool in Honolulu, HI, founded in 1973. It offers early childhood education with a low student–faculty ratio and a rich indoor–outdoor setting, including one of the largest shaded outdoor preschool play areas in Honolulu. Its hands-on, emergent curriculum is guided by children’s interests and emphasizes real-world experiences, long-term projects, investigations, and daily outdoor play. The program is research-informed, focusing on building social and emotional intelligence and confidence. Early literacy and numeracy develop naturally through daily routines, group projects, music, art, play, and movement.
The school operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Enrollment demand is consistently high; families are encouraged to apply early and include the required non-refundable application fee. In-person tours are typically offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 AM, and waitlist times may vary. The Early School maintains a nondiscrimination policy covering race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, and gender.
