About
Mary T. Wellcome Child Development Center of Phyllis Wheatley Community Center provides community-based early childhood education for children ages 6 weeks to five years in Minneapolis, MN. Located at 1301 N. 10th Avenue and operated by the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, established in 1924, the center focuses on preparing children for kindergarten through a curriculum that supports cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. A low staff-to-child ratio enables individualized attention and strong partnerships with families during the critical early years.
Programs are organized by age in dedicated classrooms: Sea Turtle (Infants, 6 weeks–16 months), Seahorse (Toddlers, 16 months–2½ years), Starfish (Preschool, 2½–4 years), and Dolphin (Pre-K, 4–5 years). Enrollment is designed to be accessible and affordable through a combination of tuition, scholarships, and assistance from grant funds. The center operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Families can request information, schedule tours, and complete enrollment applications to secure placement in the appropriate classroom for their child.
