About
History First Learning began with Care-a-lot Child Care and has grown steadily since opening its first center in 1991. Care-a-lot began in Greece, later relocating to Canal Ponds Business Park, and expanded through acquisitions including RIT Henrietta (2002) and Farmington/Canandaigua (2008). Growth continued in 2018 with the addition of centers in Pittsford and North Greece, Fairport in 2019 and Rochester acquisitions between 2020 and 2022, including Browncroft Day Care and Victor Child Care.
In March 2023, Generations Child Care joined the First Learning family, bringing five long-standing Rochester centers and strengthening our shared mission of delivering high-quality care to families across the region. Building on this foundation, First Learning entered a new phase of accelerated statewide growth. In 2024 and 2025, we expanded beyond Rochester through strategic acquisitions in Buffalo, adding multiple centers throughout Erie County, as well as the Windsor Academy network, which extended our reach into the downstate New York market.
Now operating as First Learning, a parent company name which encompasses all brands, we mark a significant milestone in our continued growth trajectory. Our focus remains on our commitment to providing exceptional childcare services. First Learning has been recognized among North America's top 50 for-profit childcare organizations by Exchange Magazine, and among the top 10 fastest growing companies by the Rochester Chamber.
