About
Lovejoy Montessori School is an in-home Montessori program in Portland, Oregon, serving the Cedar Mill area and nearby Cedar Hills, Bethany, and North Beaverton. Founded in 2021 by owner and lead guide Lora McNamara, the school is the only AMS-certified, state-licensed, OMA-member, in-home Montessori program in this area. It operates as a State of Oregon licensed and certified family child care home and offers a traditional three-year Primary Montessori program for children ages 2.5 to 6, guided by an AMS-certified Montessori primary teacher. Enrollment is capped at 10 children to ensure individualized attention.
The program integrates peace education, practical life skills, and hands-on learning across language, mathematics, geography, science, history, music, and art. Children experience daily outdoor play, with nature intentionally incorporated into the curriculum. Schedule options include school-day programs and a morning-only option, with aftercare available Monday through Thursday until 5 PM. Admissions prioritize families committed to completing the full Primary cycle over two to three years; children must be independently toilet trained, and families share any support needs prior to enrollment.
Tuition includes materials for art and STEM projects, gardening and baking activities, special classroom projects, and twice-daily organic snacks. A one-time enrollment fee applies; there are no annual supply or re-enrollment fees. Lovejoy Montessori maintains a clear non-discrimination policy and emphasizes close partnership with families through regular communication, conferences, and community gatherings.
