La Scuola d'Italia Galileo Galilei operates L’Asilo by La Scuola, a multi-lingual early learning center, daycare, and preschool in Pittsburgh, PA. Located at 401 Shady Ave., Ste G101 in Shadyside, the center expanded in 2017 to offer full immersion in Italian alongside English, with rotating extracurricular languages based on staffing and family interest, including Spanish, French, Greek, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Farsi, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Japanese. Its mission is to promote, preserve, and maintain Italian language, art, history, and culture while serving a diverse community.
Programs cover general early childhood education, daycare, and preschool. The curriculum follows Italy’s Five Fields of Experience (I Campi d’Esperienza), integrating daily learning in science, math, reading, art, music, physical movement, and language arts, and may draw from Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches while aligning with Pennsylvania educational standards. The school welcomes children’s home languages and invites family participation to share culture and traditions in the classroom.
Beyond early childhood offerings, La Scuola provides adult programming, after-school options, and summer camp. La Scuola d’Italia Galileo Galilei, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and welcomes monetary and in-kind donations and sponsorships that support daycare and preschool activities.
