About
Blakemore Children’s Center, based in Nashville, TN, has served families since 1976 with year-round early childhood education and care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The center offers two primary programs: an Infant/Toddler Program for children 6 weeks to 30 months and a Preschool Program for children 2.5 to 5 years. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Guided by a Reggio-inspired, child-driven approach, the curriculum focuses on developmentally appropriate, process-oriented, and play-based learning. Multi-age, inclusive classrooms promote collaboration and give children opportunities to be both leaders and learners. The program emphasizes friendship, cooperation, compassion, and kindness, and values diversity and family partnership.
Founded as the Mattye Jones Child Care Center at Blakemore United Methodist Church, the center adopted its current multi-age, inclusive model in 1997 and launched the Maxine Cassety Infant/Toddler Program in 2008. Blakemore Children’s Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and holds the highest 3-star rating from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Grants have supported the All Play Together Playground and scholarship assistance for families. Governance is provided by a board that includes church members, parents, and community volunteers.
