About
Westminster Presbyterian Day School is a licensed cooperative preschool in Austin, TX, serving children ages 15 months to five years. Located in West Austin’s Tarrytown neighborhood, the half-day, play-based program enrolls about 90 children and operates with a parent co-op model in which families assist teachers in the classroom.
The curriculum follows Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Emergent Curriculum, using thematic units to explore language, math, science, social studies, art, music, and movement. Outdoor learning is integral, with three distinct play areas and roughly two hours outside each day, weather permitting. The program includes big body, adventure, and risky play to build resilience and confidence, supported by active supervision and daily environment checks.
Sponsored by Westminster Presbyterian Church, the school integrates Christian celebrations and values into community life. Governance is provided by a seven-member board of church members and parents, and daily operations are led by the director. The school is licensed by the State of Texas and recognized as a 4-star Texas Rising Star School.
Parent education is built into the cooperative model through in-class helping days and workshops on topics such as child behavior, kindergarten readiness, nutrition, CPR, and First Aid.
