About
Peake Childhood Center is a nonprofit early childhood education center in Hampton, Virginia, founded in 1971. It serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years from families across the Peninsula, welcoming all backgrounds, incomes, and abilities. The fully licensed program is led by degreed teachers and uses a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum to support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. Peake is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and holds the highest rating in Hampton in the Virginia Quality Program. The center enrolls nearly 200 children annually and maintains safe, well-equipped classrooms and outdoor spaces with low teacher-child ratios. As a 501(c)(3) and United Way partner agency, Peake offers the Peninsula’s only sliding-scale tuition based on family income and need, and accepts Virginia Department of Social Services and military childcare subsidies. Families typically pay about one-third of the total cost of care, with the remainder supported by community contributions.
