About
YWCA Richmond, founded in 1887 in Richmond, VA, is the oldest YWCA in the South. The nonprofit is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all in the Greater Richmond region. It provides free, confidential survivor support for individuals affected by intimate partner and sexual violence, including crisis response, short- and long-term advocacy, housing coordination, and resource navigation. A regional 24/7 hotline offers immediate assistance, with language access for non-English speakers.
YWCA Richmond advances prevention through outreach, education, and training that engage community members and partner organizations. Through The Sprout School, it offers early childhood education and infant care for children ages 2 months to 5 years at multiple Richmond sites. The organization also invests in women’s leadership and recognition through programs such as the Outstanding Women Awards, Rising Outstanding Woman Award, the Pat Asch Fellowship for Social Justice, and the Young Women’s Leadership Alliance.
Recent impact includes 14,637 calls answered on the regional hotline, 9,946 individuals engaged through outreach and prevention, and 234 children enrolled in Sprout School classrooms. YWCA Richmond serves all people, regardless of identity or background, and welcomes community involvement through volunteering, training, and philanthropic support.
