About
Meeting House Nursery School is a play-based, part-day preschool in Madison, WI, founded in 1949. Serving children ages 2–6, it is the oldest part-time preschool in Madison. Programs include a Two-Year-Old Program that builds self-help skills and comfort with classroom routines; a Three-Year-Old Program emphasizing social play, communication, dramatic play, exploration, and art; and a 4K Program as an approved Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) community site, focusing on language arts and literacy, science and math, fine motor development, social skills, and transition to five-year-old kindergarten. Extended schedule options and Camp Meeting House provide additional enrichment and flexibility.
The school’s mission is to provide an educationally sound program in an atmosphere of warmth, friendliness, and freedom; to offer opportunities for exploration, experimentation, and inquiry; to encourage curiosity and expression; and to accept each child as an individual, supporting growth according to individual needs. Children must be 2 years old by September 1 of the enrolling year.
Meeting House Nursery School is located inside the west wing of the First Unitarian Society Meeting House at 900 University Bay Drive, a national landmark designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The nursery school wing, added in 1963 by the Taliesin Foundation, was designed to meet the specific needs of the program.
